Mashona Rebellion Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Mashonaland Mounted Police. On June 16, 1896, Captain Nesbitt led a patrol to the rescue the miners at the Alice Mine in Mazoe Valley, Rhodesia, who were surrounded by rebels. He and his patrol fought their way through the enemy succeeding in getting the miners back to Salisbury, Rhodesia, in spite of heavy fighting in which three of the small rescue party were killed and five wounded. For most prestigious award for gallantry, he was promoted Major and awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
