The five bronze stars that you can see on the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal are: Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes-Alsace, Normandy, and Northern France. He also received two Good Conduct Medals which is why there is a bronze knot on the bar. According to stories from mom he probably should have also received a Purple Heart Medal because he was wounded by shrapnel and was in a field hospital. His unit was shipping out and he didn't want to be left behind so some of his buddies "liberated" him and so no paper work was ever done! Not that he cared about that in the least, he just wanted to stay with his "brothers".
