Actor. Born Anthony Anholt in Singapore just prior to the island's fall to the Japanese during WWII. His Dutch-born father was made a prisoner by occupying Japanese and eventually died as a forced laborer in Malaysia. Anholt and his English mother made their way to Australia before the end of the war, and to Britain only after war's end. After school, Anholt taught English in France and Spain, worked for a toy company and briefly sold insurance before he turned to acting at 26. After filming several commercials, he made his theatrical debut in ‘The Boys in the Band' in 1969. He found steady work on the stage in addition to a long stint as the continuity announcer on BBC World Service radio. He also appeared in several television programs including ‘The Protectors' and the cult favorite ‘Space: 1999' as first officer Tony Verdeschi. He was also known for having played tycoon Charles Frere on ‘Howard's Way' from 1985 to 1990. He was married twice and had one son, actor Christien Anholt. Both of his ex-wives were reportedly by his bedside when he passed away in London at age 61 from a brain tumor.
