Actor. He made his motion picture debut for Japan's Toei Studios in 1962, changing his stage name several times before settling on Toru in 1975. A popular action star and supporting actor, he appeared in over 67 motion pictures and numerous television drama series. In the year of his death he acted in four movies releases; the last one was the critically acclaimed "Okuribito" (Departures) that won the top prize, Grand Prix des Americas, at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival.
