Actor. Born Sanford Klein in New York City, he served as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; upon returning home he studied drama and formed his own theater group. He evolved into a prolific character performer, appearing in a variety of roles during the course of his career. From the early 1950s until the 2000s, he accumulated more than 100 TV credits, beginning with a featured role as 'Des Smith' in the syndicated series "Crunch and Des" (1955 to 1956), also including appearances in the programs "Rawhide", "The Twilight Zone", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Wild, Wild West", "Hogan's Heroes", "I Spy", "The Invaders" and "All in the Family", among many others. In addition, he was a cast member in the series "The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters" (1964) and "Knots Landing" (1984 to 1985). He appeared in the short-lived Broadway production "A Conversation at Midnight" (1964).
