She was born on October 24, 1912 to Fred H. and Alma (Holmes) Denchfield in Piedmont, Kansas on Otter Creek.

Mryl grew to womanhood in Piedmont where her father was the town assessor and a member of the school board. She married Stanley Lee "Bob" Fudge on August 8, 1935 in Winfield, Kansas. Together they spent most of their married life in Platte County, Missouri. Her son Freddy and daughter Jean were born in the same house that she herself was born. Later Myrl married Ray Shumake on May 31, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri and they lived most of thier years together in LaVerne, Oklahoma.
