COLUMBUS BROWN'S FUNERAL ARRANGED
Death Occurred on Visit to Son in Mesa, Ariz.; Obsequies Tomorrow
The funeral of Columbus Brown, age 76, who died suddenly last Sunday while visiting his son, at Mesa, Ariz., will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Bresee chapel. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born in Platt county Missouri, but crossed the plains to California with his parents when he was about 3 years of age. His parents formed part of the ill-fated Donner party.
The Brown party reached San Francisco early in 1849. Later Mr. Brown's parents moved to Salem, Or., where he grew to manhood and married. He was connected with the United States Customs Department at Astoria fifteen years, and moved from there to Los Angeles.
He had resided here with his family since 1887. For the first few years of his residence here, he was a member of the Meek Baking Company firm. After leaving that firm he was employed in the city Tax Collector's office. After the consolidation of the city and county offices, Mr. Brown was connected with the tax department in various capacities, until about three years ago when he retired.
He leaves a widow, who lives in the family home, at 1368 South Flower street; a daughter, Mrs. C. A. Thomas of this city, and three sons, S. Allen Brown of this city; George W., of Mesa, and Ralph L., of San Francisco.
