Arthur F. “Art” Averweg, 94, of Streator passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Heritage Health Therapy and Rehabilitation in Streator.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Jacob Rose will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-11 A.M. Tuesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 A.M.
Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Streator.
Born April 9, 1921 in Streator he was the son of Henry and Lena (Kunkel) Averweg. He married Martha Siroky on August 7, 1945 at St. Stephen’s Church. They were married by the late Msgr. Biskupski. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2001.
Born and raised in Streator he attended St. Anthony Grade School and Streator High School. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1945 during WW II. He was a 2nd Class Petty Officer and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operation.
He worked as a Sheet Metal Contractor through the years. He was in the Sheet Metal Workers Union for 74 total years 42 of which he was active.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He served as an usher at the church. He was an active member of the St. Stephen’s Parents Club through the years serving as both the President and Treasurer.
