On April 23 1816, Amos married Belinda Phelps in South Hero, Vermont. Amos was an attorney, first practicing in Grand Isle County, Vermont. He served as State's Attorney from 1818-1820, and again in 1822-1823.
In 1828, the University of Vermont purchased a lot from Amos, and built its first Medical College there. Later named Pomeroy Hall, the building still stands in 2013.
