The Rev. George W. Fritch Jr., 91, of Topton, formerly of Nazareth, died Sept. 8, 2004 in the Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the loving husband of Ruth A. (Adams) Fritch, having celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in June. Born in New Ringgold, he was a son of the late Rev. George W. Sr. and Ellen R. (Smith) Fritch. He was a 1935 graduate of Albright College, Reading and a 1938 graduate of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He was ordained in 1938 in Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown. From 1938 to 1946, he pastored at the Niantic Sassamansville parish which consisted of Christ Lutheran Church, Niantic; St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Sassamansville; Trinity Lutheran Church, Bechtelsville and St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville. From 1946 to 1962, he pastored at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Scranton. From 1962 to 1972, he was at Grace Lutheran Church, Wyndmoor, Philadelphia. From 1972 to 1981, he pastored at New Bethel Lutheran Church, Kempton and Friedens Lutheran Church, Stony Run. From 1981 to 1985, he was the visitation pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lehighton, and from 1985 to retiring in 1994, he was the visitation pastor at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Nazareth.
Survivors: Wife; daughters, Mary E. Phillips of Reading and Lois G. Gakuo of Philadelphia; sons, James M. Fritch of East Greenville, Col. Rev. Mark A. Fritch of Martinez, Ga. and Rev. John P. Fritch of Allentown; brother, Luther S. Fritch of Muncie, Ind.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rev. David S. Fritch, in 1998 and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Fritch, in 2002.
Services: memorial, 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, Henry Auditorium Chapel of the Lutheran Home at Topton, 1 South Home Avenue, Topton.
Interment, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements, Robert S. Nestor, New Tripoli.
