Robert I. Sheaffer, age 78, of Dillsburg, passed away peacefully, Thursday evening, May 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born Friday, July 1, 1938, in Duncannon, Perry County, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Earl and Alma Marie Hostetter Sheaffer.

He was a former football player and graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Class of 1956. He also served with Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Robert was a foreman with Caretti, Inc., of Camp Hill for 25 years before starting his own business, Sheaffer's Masonry, Inc., of Dillsburg in June of 1983. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Dillsburg; the Dillsburg Lions Club and the Dillsburg American Legion. Robert served on the Northern York County School Board from 1972-1984. He also enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin in Potter County, coaching his sons in midget football and little league and now watching his grandchildren's sports. Robert was also a hobby farmer and enjoyed mowing.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bonnie Lou Brehm Sheaffer. His children: Dennis R. Sheaffer and his wife, Ellen, of Dillsburg; Denise S. Bleiler, of Dillsburg and Douglas L. Sheaffer and his wife, Terri, of Dillsburg. His brother, Lloyd Sheaffer, of Shermans Dale. His sisters: Faye Scott, of Mechanicsburg and Joyce Smiley, of Duncannon. 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Lynn Sheaffer.

Services will be held Thursday, 11:00 AM, June 1, 2017 at the Cocklin Funeral Home,Inc., 30 N. Chestnut Street, Dillsburg, PA. A viewing will be held Thursday, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, two hours prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be held following the service in the Dillsburg Cemetery-Mountain Road.
