Diane Knutson died September 12, 2017 following a four year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on Chicago's south side on August 18, 1947. There, Diane and her sister, Kay, and several cousins grew up in a closely knit extended Greek family. Diane graduated from Luther South High School, attended Columbia College in Chicago and worked at the Chicago Tribune. Mutual friends introduced Diane to Norwood in the fall of 1967, a seminary intern working in an African American inner city congregation on Chicago's west side. They were married in 1969 and began a lifelong commitment to parish ministry. The family grew and hospitality became routine. Diane loved to cook, always making room at the table for friends, family and parishioners. Her Greek dinners will never be replaced. She is survived by her husband, Norwood, and married children; Kristin and Phil Herrmann, Tim and Lani Knutson, Peter and Karin Knutson, and Ann and Rob James. She was the proud grandmother to Luke, Grace and Mark Herrmann; Peter and Michael Knutson; Nathaniel, Christian, and Aaron Knutson; and Emma and Claire James. Diane had a deep abiding faith which only grew stronger in her relentless battle with cancer. She died without pain and at peace, knowing that the abiding love of Christ was a sure hope of resurrection. Visitation Saturday September 16, 2017, 9:00am until the memorial service at noon at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 675 North Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois. The family requests that memorials be made to GPS Faith Community, Machesney Park, Illinois or Cure CMD (Congenital Muscular Dystrophy).
