JOYCE, JOHN J. "JACK", Age 90, of Stratford, passed away peacefully Friday, October 13, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was a longtime Stratford law officer and retired Chief of Police, and Army veteran. Most of Jack's career he served as a detective well known for his photographic memory and thorough police work matching details of past and present crimes with suspects and sharing his information with other South Jersey law agencies, the FBI, and US Marshals Office. Retired FBI agent Tom Tierney is recently quoted as stating "Jack was a great cop, but most of all he was a great family man. You have no idea how much help he gave to the FBI Office in Camden while Pete Connelly and I were there. I couldn't count the number of subjects he identified in our cases". While Jack received many commendations during his career there were a couple of crimes that he had difficulty resolving and weighed heavily on his mind. While investigating a local drug ring in 1970 his home was firebombed while his wife Pat and six children slept, and the 1973 Linda LePordo Murder which went unresolved and was a recent Fox 29 TV Cold Case story in which Joyce was interviewed. Jack was born in Philadelphia, PA, member of the FOP, Chief of Police Association, The VFW, and a founding member of Saint Luke Catholic Church in Stratford. He loved to dance, research his ancestry, and spend time with his large family.

Beloved Husband of the late Patricia "Patsy". Devoted Father of Jack (late Kathleen) Joyce, Patti (Patrick) Ori, Clare (Ray) Kenney, Dan Joyce, Colleen (Bob) Marchinek, Maureen Joyce (Mark Laganella). Loving Grandfather of Jay (Kristen) Joyce, Jennifer Joyce (Ryan Stephens), Katelyn (Anthony) Flaherty, Stephanie (Daniel) Nelson, Bryson Sundberg (Lana Douglas), Bridget (Dan) Pullman, Maggie Kenney, Tim Kenney, Jaimie Joyce (Jeff Malatesta), Dan Joyce (Courtney Lemmerman), Corey Quaile, Sean Marchinek, Grace Marchinek, Maddie Reiss, Charlie Reiss. Loving Great Grandfather of ten. Brother of the late James, William (Catherine), Florence (Richard) McDowell, and Sister in Law Delores Joyce.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing and visitation with the family Thursday evening 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Friday morning 8:00 to 10:15 A.M. at EUGENE J. ZALE FUNERAL HOME, INC. 712 N. White Horse Pike, Stratford, NJ 08084. PH (856) 783-5100. Funeral Mass on Friday 11A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish - Saint Luke Church, 55 Warwick Road, Stratford. Int. following in Gate of Heaven Cem., Berlin.
