He worked for the gas company and left a wife and five children. His children were: Mrs. James Shannon, St. Louis Missouri; Mrs. J. Berry, Chicago Illinois; Patrick McCabe, Hot Springs Arkansas; and John and Bernard McCabe Jr., of Quincy Illinois.
23 December 1904, Mr. McCabe took a hard fall on his property, and had steadily weakened from then, until death.
Funeral was held 11 January 1905 at St. Peter's Catholic church, with interment in its cemetery.
