Harold J. Ruggless, 64, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Although Harold had been employed by The Wittern Group for 34 years, his passion was his Local Union, United Autoworkers Local 270. Under his guidance, the Local became known as "The Solidarity Local" throughout the labor movement. For decades, wherever workers were fighting for justice, Harold was there with support, encouragement and tenacity. Whether it was the Steelworkers, Mineworkers, fellow Autoworkers, or anyone else across the country, unionists always knew they could count on Harold.

Unfortunately, the last battle, his personal one, was lost.

Harold was devoted to his special assistant and best friend, his wife of 32 years, Bonnie and their little dog, Marcy.

Also mourning his passing are his sister-in-law, Beverly Kilbane of Des Moines and his brother-in-law, James Walker Jr. of Urbandale.

As per Harold's request, no public services are planned.
