Dave and I were childhood friends and both sons of local ministers. We graduated from High School together and some 10 years later discovered that we were both Regional Sales Representatives for opposing modular home companies. We had just seen each other about a week earlier in Frederick, MD and had an opportunity to discuss what had happened to each of us during the 10 years prior. I was in Frederick, MD on the night he died. A light rain was falling which turned all the roads into a sheet of ice as it got colder that afternoon. Dave was returning to his apartment after work that Thursday night when his car slid off of the road and slammed into a bridge abutment, then burst into flames. A passing motorist stopped and pulled him from the vehicle then called an ambulance, but his burns were too severe and he died later at the hospital.
A closed casket service was held at the Great Island Presbyterian Church in Lock Haven and was attended by hundreds of his friends and community members. His younger brother Chris delivered the tearfilled eulogy. He was an exceptionally talented woodworker and craftsman and loved helping people.
