JACK D. ROBERTSON, also known as "Robbie," age 58, of Mount Gilead, died early Thursday morning, February 20, 2014, at the Mount Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. He was surrounded by his loving family following a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

On October 17, 1955, Jack was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of the Jesse and Barbara (Kirtley) Robertson. He was raised in Sparta, where he graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 1974 as the class Salutatorian.

Furthering his education, Jack studied at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering in 1978. Next, he studied at Kent State University, where he earned his Master's degree in International Business.

Shortly after completing his Master's degree, Jack re-united with his high school sweetheart, Sandra Johnson. He and Sandy saw each other every weekend until they were married on November 28, 1987, in his parent's home in Sparta. He often told his daughters that their mother was the most beautiful woman around. Together they shared 26 wonderful years of marriage, and lovingly raised three daughters, Sarah, Jessica and Andrea.

In 1978, Jack began working at the Goodyear corporate headquarters in Akron, in rubber chemical purchasing. After learning everything there was to know about the rubber chemical process, he then transferred into their technical sales position. Jack filled many different positions with various chemical companies. He describes these experiences in his biography in many ways from "good learning opportunities" to "despicable," but the place where he felt most at home and most cherished was Polymerics, Inc., in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where he was employed until his passing.

To say that Jack was a fan of sports, especially softball, would be an understatement. He never missed a game and loved to invest his own free time and money into helping not only his own daughters succeed at the game, but also many other young ladies around the community. Wanting to give his daughters as many opportunities in sports as possible as they were growing up, Jack and a few others founded the Morrow County Girls' Athletic Association. The purpose was to give younger girls the chance to play organized sports starting in the second grade. In addition to softball, Jack loved to golf. He won several tournaments and scramble games, and loved to play just for fun with his parents.

Jack was also a true Buckeye. During his last few days in the hospital, one of his biggest concerns was who was wining the Ohio State–Michigan game (WE were still ahead when he asked)! He also loved going to the Cleveland Indians' games with his family in the summertime.

Genealogy was a life-long passion for Jack. He spent forty years researching, collecting, and corresponding with others to enrich his understanding of the Robertson family name. He was a member of the Friends of the Library in Mount Gilead for a time, where he was especially interested in the genealogy library.

He was a wonderful husband and father who would do absolutely anything for "his girls." He made it to every softball game, dance recital, theater event, and scholastic event that he could attend. Jack was there to help his daughters at any time of the day or night. Whether Sarah was trapped in a snow drift on the side of the road at midnight, Jessica needed a few hours of hitting practice, or Annie needed help with math homework, "Daddy" was there.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandy Robertson of Mount Gilead; three daughters: Sarah Robertson of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Jessica Robertson of Oxford, Ohio, and Annie Robertson of Columbus, Ohio, and his parents Jesse Robertson and Barbara Robertson of Sparta, Ohio.

His family will greet friends from 2–6 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main Street, Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morrow County Dog Shelter, 80 N. Walnut Street, Suite A, Mount Gilead, Ohio, 43338, where he got his canine companions, Zora and Rueby, whom he so dearly loved.
