Wayne Charles Dunlap, 60, of Osman died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday (April 26, 2006) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Mr. Dunlap was born Jan. 24, 1946 in Champaign, a son of Charles Henry and Thelma Mae Bryant Dunlap. He married Bonnie Louise Bright on Dec. 26, 1981 in Osman. She survives.

Survivors also include his mother, Thelma Chicquette; a son, Charles Wayne Dunlap; two daughters, Shawn Dunlap and Kenna Dunlap; a brother, Stephen Dunlap; two sisters, Beverly Winters and Sandy Miller and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Mr. Dunlap retired in 1994 as a brigadier general in the Illinois Army National Guard, Springfield. He was a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star.

He was the original director of Lincoln's Challenge Academy in Rantoul until 1997 and was a supervisor of helicopter flight simulators in Peoria.

Mr. Dunlap graduated from Mahomet-Seymour High School in 1964 and graduated summa cum laude from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mahomet.
