Neil C. Bach, 88 of Pontiac died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 12:10 PM at Evenglow Inn, Pontiac, IL.

Neil was born on December 19, 1920 at Tuscola, Illinois a son of Dr. Irwin and Ruth (Crocker) Bach. He married Mary Helen Daniels on July 27, 1947 at Pontiac. She survives-Pontiac. Neil was preceded in death by two sons: Douglas Bach and David Bach and one brother: Irwin W. Bach.

Neil was educated in Champaign schools and a graduate of Pontiac High School. Neil graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1946. Neil served our country in the US Army Air Force from 1942-1945 where he was assigned to the China/Burma/India Theater. As an air crew member he flew 112 missions over "The Hump" (The Himalaya Mountains) and was awarded 3 Battle Stars, The Air medal with cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Neil started with the Bank of Pontiac in 1949 until his retirement. He served as President of Pontiac Bancorp from 1977-1985 and as Chairman of the Board from 1983-1991. During his career he served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Bankers Association, was Vice President of Group 2 and President of the Organization's Marketing and Public Relations Division. He is a graduate of the Banking University, University of Wisconsin, The Senior Bank Officer Seminar, Harvard University and I.B.A. Senior Management School.

In Pontiac he was a charter member of the Pontiac Jaycees and Toastmasters Club. He served as President of Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce and of the First United Methodist Church boards. He was Secretary of the Pontiac Grade School District #429. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church-Pontiac where he served on numerous committees. He was a former Trustee of the Apollos Camp and Bennet Humiston Trust Board since 1959 and also the Alta Byrne Trust and was Chairman of both Trusts. He was a member of the Pontiac Elks Club the former Pontiac American Legion and was an avid golfer. Neil loved the community of Pontiac and believed in giving back to the community thru volunteering.
