Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company A, 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry on August 5, 1861. He was then first promoted to Sergeant on April 4, 1862, then to Commissary Sergeant, Field and Staff, October 24, 1862. He served until he was honorably mustered out on April 16, 1864.

He died at the Dayton National Soldiers Home in 1906.
