Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 25, 1861. He served over three full years in the field, receiving promotions to Corporal (August 9, 1862) and Sergeant (September 29, 19862). He was honorably mustered out on June 23, 1864 upon the expiration of his enlistment.
