Martha Warren Carpenter, 80, of Niota, died Tuesday night at NHC of Athens.

A native of North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Samme Hutsell Warren, and was also preceded in death by her husband, T. Henry Carpenter, on Dec. 29, 1993. She was a member of the Niota United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Samme and Marvin Templin of Ooltewah; one son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Lynda Carpenter of Niota; one granddaughter, Kim Vaughn of Niota; three grandsons, William H. Carpenter Jr., of Niota; Tony Lee Dorsey of Niota and Sammy B. Axley of Ooltewah; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Millard (Mildred) Skelton of Niota.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger and Lay Leader J. Neal Ensminger officiating. Burial will follow in Tranquility Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

The body will be at Smith Funeral Home after 11 a.m. Thursday where the family will receive friends Thursday from 4-9 p.m.
