The son of Samuel & Polly Blakesley, in 1850 the family lived in Sanilac County, Michigan, but in 1860 he was a laborer living with and/or working for farmer Williard S. Silliman in Manilius, Onondaga County, New York. He stood 5' 6" tall and had black hair and black eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Syracuse, Onondaga County, December 9, 1861, mustered into federal service December 16 at a location not stated, and died of disease in Gettysburg.
