Louis Emil Enderud, 99, of Newkirk, Ok, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at South Central Kansas Medical Center.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Memorial Lawn Cemetery Chapel, Arkansas City, KS. Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City is in charge of the arrangements.

Louis Emil Enderud was born on February 23, 1918 in Caldwell, Kansas the son of Christian Oluf and Junia (McCants) Enderud. As a young man, in February of 1942, Louis joined the United States Army during World War II. During his military career, he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African and Middle East Theater Campaign Ribbon and 5 Overseas Bars, Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1945. On August 11, 1945, in Nogent, France, he was united in marriage to Micheline Volton. After the war, the couple moved back the United States. He held many jobs, such as working for the Traveler newspaper, Silverdale Stone Co., Augusta Electric Co., Mauer-Newer Packing House and a garage manager in Lamar, MO. He owned and operated Louis Auto Salvage in Arkansas City until 1985 after 25 years in the business. The couple moved to Newkirk in 2000. Mrs. Enderud preceded him in death in 2011.

Louis was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW Post in Arkansas City. He also enjoyed his hobbies steam engines and tractors and being a part of the K&O Steam & Gas Engine Association.

His family includes his children: Frank & Joyce Enderud of Arkansas City; William & Rita Enderud of Newkirk; Tommy Enderud of Winfield; and Chuck Stark of Arkansas City; his siblings, Opal Sample of Lincoln, NE, Jessie Enderud of California, Lloyd Enderud of Ponca City and Alfred Enderud of Wichita; his 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Roy, Carl and Clarence Enderud and 2 sisters, Ethel and Ruby.
