"It has been officially reported that Cpl W Carpenter, of the Royal Norfolk's, has been killed while serving in Burma. He was thirty-one. Corporal W. Carpenter has been for 12 years in the Army, having served in India, where he received the North-West Frontier medal. He leaves a widow and one child who reside in Norwich. Before rejoining the Army at the beginning of this war Cpl. W. Carpenter was employed by Mr. Woollard, egg merchant, Mlldenhall."
