John W. Sinclair

Death Of Popular Young Farmer
Due To Heart Attack - Many Attended Funeral

Correspondence of The Robesonian.

Maxton - John W. Sinclair, 40, one of the most popular farmers of this section, died Sunday morning, Nov. 3, at 1 o'clock, of a sudden heart attack. His health had not been robust for two years, but he had received treatment at Duke hospital and was thought to be greatly improved. He had attended to his business as usual on Saturday, but became ill that evening, and passed away in a few hours.

A large crowd, including many from out of town, attended the funeral, which was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Center Church, conducted by Rev. G. H. Hanna, assisted by Rev. James Appleby. Numerous and beautiful floral tributes attested the love and esteem in which Mr. Sinclair was held. They were arranged on the grave by Mrs. Bob Burns, Jr., Mrs. Katie McNeill, Mrs. Mollie Webster, Mrs. Ernest Odom, Miss Nonie Buie, Miss Nell Campbell, Mrs. Lawrence Campbell.

Pall-bearers were: active - C. W. Henderson, Ernest Odom, Hubert McNeill, Bob Burns, Jr., R. W. Purcell, Baxter Smith, E. J. Walters, and R. M. Sinclair of Laurinburg, R. L. McLeod, J. H. Barrington of Lumberton, A. L. Buie, J. B. Neill, Arthur McEachin.

Mr. Sinclair was one of the most loyal members of Center Church, having been ordained an elder at the age of 24. Dr. E. L. Siler stated at that time that he was the youngest elder he had ever ordained. His example and influence in his community were always for good. His good deeds and name will live on.

He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Mary Wilkes of Maxton, and the following small children: Mary Margaret, Mabel, John Jr., Angus, and Betty Jean. Also his mother, Mrs. Dannie Sinclair, and the following brothers and sisters: W. T. Sinclair of Richmond, Va., Sheppard and Duncan of Wakulla, Neill of Little Rock, S.C., and Mrs. W. H.
