Born in Knoxville, TN, she was a daughter of the late John Burge Jones and the late Julia Anderson Callaway Jones.
"Miss Polly" attended Ringling School of Art and the University of Tampa. Her great love of art led to her owning and operating The Frame Shop in Walterboro for a number of years.
She was very active in the civic organizations of her community, including the Fine Arts Club and Garden Club. She also enjoyed spending time in the mountains of North Carolina where the family had a summer home. Polly was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, was a homemaker and a devoted and loving mother.
Polly was the widow of Dr. Warren. S. Smith and leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Warren "Skeet" Smith, Jr., of Gilbert and Malcolm "Bugs" Smith and wife Lark, of Walterboro; three daughters, Julia Ransom of Los Angeles, CA, Cricket Morris of Round O and Becky Smith of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Judy Hensley of East Lake Weir, FL; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Madison "Nat" Smith on March 2, 1975; and her sister, Barbara Stokes.
