PORTER, Philip Steven
Born November 27, 1924 in Plattsburgh, New York and returned to our Lord August 7, 2011. Beloved husband of Joy Porter. Father to John and Gilbert (Kristen). Grandfather to Amy, Jaimee, John, Jennifer, Kae Cee, and Kimberly. Great-grandfather of seven.


Philip graduated from West Point in 1948. He retired from the U.S.A.F. in February 1967 with the rank of Major. Philip perused his passion for martial arts; He founded the USJA (United States Judo Association) in the early sixties and later built the National Judo Institute in Colorado Springs. He also founded the USMA in 1998. He held 10th degree black belt in Judo. Jujitsu, Taiho Jitsu, Budo Tai, Jutsu, Berkoku Miz Ryu Jujitsu, Jun Kin Shin. Philip will be greatly missed by his entire circle of friends - they encompass the globe. Our father and husband BEST EVER forever in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 14:00 at 7001 High Sierra Ct., Orangevale, CA 95662. Full military service will be held August 26, 2011 at 13:30 in West Point, New York 10996 at the United States Military Academy. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials to West Point in the name of Philip Porter.
