Bobby Dean Pate, 73, Lee's Summit, MO, died at his home, August 25, 2006 of pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 28 at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 1200 SW Blue Parkway, Lee's Summit, MO. Cremation with inurnment at a later date in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, where an American Legion Poppy service will be held. Bob and his family request memorial contributions to American Legion Post #340, Sugar Creek, MO, Martin Luther Lutheran Church, One Good Meal c/o Martin Luther Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. Bob was born in Independence, KS to Effie Mae (Snyder) and Joseph Earl Pate. He was the fifth of six sons. He attended elementary, high school and community college in Independence, KS. He played football, basketball and American Legion baseball. After baseball he excelled at fast pitch softball as a catcher in Independence, KS, U.S. Navy and the Kansas City Metro area. In the metro area he was a team member of the Letter Carriers, Lenny's, Billy Boy Foods, Wilbert and lastly at Gaslight Realty. After softball he turned to golf. A true sports fan of the Chiefs, Royals, KU basketball and the Big 12. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from 1952 until 1956. He was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 20 years and a U.S. Postal Service manager for 19 years. He was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Postal Supervisors. He also was employed part time for the Kansas City School District for 29 years. Bob was past commander of Conboy Nichols, American Legion Post 340, and was a volunteer driver for One Good Meal. He was an active and participating member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren to the fullest. He attended and supported their school and sports programs with enthusiasm. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: James, Raymond, Carl and Ronald. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rhoda (Libby) Pate; his daughter, Sandra and her husband Kevin Farmer of Edmond, OK; his son, John J. Pate and wife Tonya (Baty) Pate of Lee's Summit, MO; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Dylan and Rachel Pate, Samantha and Andrew Farmer; his brother, Joseph E. Pate, Jr. and Mary of McPherson, KS; brother-in-law, Robert E. Libby and family of West Valley, Utah; sister-inlaw, Sharon Scott and family of Gordon, TX; mother-in-law, Violet Libby; and many special and good friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at KC Cancer Center South and John Knox Village Hospice. He will be greatly missed. (Arrangements: D.W.
