An officer with the California Highway Patrol (stationed at Barstow and most recently, Rancho Cucamonga) since May 10, 1996, John was killed during a traffic stop of a suspected drunk driver when another driver who was under the influence struck him.

John was also a Platoon Sergeant with the California National Guard and had recently returned from a 14-month tour of duty in Iraq.

A cowboy at heart, John loved country music and will be fondly remembered as a lively character with an affinity for playing practical jokes. He was very beloved by everyone who knew him.

John truly enjoyed and was proud of being a CHP officer and adored his wife Teresa; daughters Hanna (10) and Megan (8); and sons Jared (6) and Dylan (5).
