Travis was a junior at Rock Island High School when he was paralyzed from the neck down during a football game between Rock Island and Alleman Catholic on September 22, 2006. The Quad Cities community, along with Habitat for Humanity, built Travis an accessible house in one day in 2007. His attitude and determination was an inspiration to thousands of people in the Quad Cities and beyond. He graduated from Rock Island High School in June, 2008. Later in 2008, he was admitted to Trinity Medical Center - West Campus in Rock Island, where he underwent surgery for lung problems. He was transferred to the intensive care unit in critical condition after the surgery. He passed away at 5:35 pm, Thursday, December 4, 2008.
