Randal Edward Ayers, age 89, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born on June 19, 1923, at Lillybrook, he was the son of the late Emmett Ayers and Mary Lilly Ayers.

Mr. Ayers enlisted during WWII in the U.S. Army, having served in the South Pacific, and was an officer who served General Douglas MacArthur as his personal assistant. He also served along with John F. Kennedy. Mr. Ayers had received five bronze stars and a purple heart, along with other service medals. He remained close to all of his military friends throughout his life, and will have full military honors.

Mr. Ayers was a survivor of a military plane being shot down in the South Pacific. Mr. Ayers was the former owner and operator of the Shady Spring Trading Post, and drove a charter bus for Quesenberry Bus Lines, having hauled children all over the State of WV. He was forced to take early retirement due to his military injuries, at which time he supported his wife Marilyn Ayers with the Ayers Family Ministries, where they traveled singing gospel music. Mr. Ayers was the backbone of his family, and was an amazing man. There was no problem too big or too small that he could not fix or have an answer to the problem. He was a very loving husband and father, always making sure his children and grandchildren had what they needed.

Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Marie Ayers, by two half sisters, Vada Blanco, Beulah Kiser, and by his sister Mary June Cherill.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his children, Robert Ayers and his wife Rose of Beckley, Thelma Fitzwater and her husband Hoy of Crab Orchard, with whom he had made his home, Brenda Minor of Crab Orchard, and Margie Fitzwater of Beaver; a sister, Ruby Wills of Coal City; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren are also among his survivors.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate The Life Of Randal Ayers at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley with Rev. Jack Long officiating.
