Robert Bowles was the father of 5 children. He served in WWII. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, The American Theatre Ribbon, & The Good Conduct Medal. As a young soldier , he trained in the Army Medical Corp.He loved motorcycles and race cars and Zane Grey.He was a good dancer and loved to listen to saxophone music. He never met a dog he didnt like. After the war he was in a serious motorcycle accident and on awaking from a 3 month coma, found that he had an amputated leg. He fought to regain his mobility with the use of a wooden leg and refused to be hindered by it. He had a custom built motorcylcle so he could continue to ride, which he did until an old man! He helped organize motorcycle poker runs with his club in AShland called the Sidewinders. He was a biker before it was cool. At one time the city of Ashland wanted to start a new ordinance where only one motorcycle could park in a parking space at a time on main street. Usually the bikers parked 3 to a spot to save meter coins and mainly to protect the bikes from people pulling in and hitting the bike before it was visible. To make their point in protest , Bob and friends organized clubs from all over the state to come over on a Sunday. Hundreds of bikers rolled in and parked up every single parking space in the town of Ashland Ohio, one bike to a space, leaving no room for any other vehicles to park. The push for the new ordinance was dropped. Success
He was a colorful personality who always had an interesting story or prank at the ready.
He was employed by the City of Ashland forover 30 years until his retirement.
He was married 4 times but the love of his life was wife Nellie Luella Tucker.
