Services for Orville E. "Gene" Rudd, 58, Maquoketa, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island, a retired Rock Island firefighter, are 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. Burial is in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or hematology-oncology department at Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.

Mr. Rudd died Friday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born April 10, 1931, son of Orville Famous & Doris Rudd, in Rock Island, where he married Patricia Ann Attwood on July 19, 1952.

Member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 1 Dec 1960 - 25 May 1981, retiring as a Lieutenant in 1981. During those years, he also worked for the former Wilson Plumbing Co., Rock Island, and the former Hoefle Construction Co., Rock Island. Also, he had worked for the Youngberg Antique Shop, Rock Island, where he did refinishing work and gardening. In 1981, he moved to Maquoketa and for the past five years had worked at the Maquoketa Library.

He was a 1949 graduate of Rock Island High School.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Association of Retired Firefighters, Rock Island; American Legion; and Eagles Lodge, Maquoketa, Iowa.

He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include the widow, daughters, Gail Lynne Crum, Madison, Ala., Vicki Lee Rudd, Milan, and Gina Ann Slenker, Delmar, Iowa; sons, Rocco G., Maquoketa, and Ryan G., Grinnell, Iowa; two grandsons; his parents, Orville F. and Doris Rudd, Rock Island; a sister, Rosemary Aversing; and a brother, Don, both of Rock Island.
