Irene was a member of the Daughters of Penelope Danae Chapter #121 of District #13.

She was Corresponding Secretary for many years until her passing. She also held many elected and appointed offices on the District and National levels. She served as District Governor from 1972-1973, and was District Penelope of the Year in 2002.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and Sisters of the Daughters of Penelope.

Irene M. Betzelos, nee Rempas; beloved wife of Anastasios "Stash" Steve Betzelos; devoted daughter of the late Constantine and Mary Rempas; dear sister of William C. (Sophie Joy) Rempas; sister-in-law of James S. (Priscilla) Betzelos, Elaine (the late John A.) Palmer and the late Angelo S. (Bessie C.) Betzelos; fond aunt, cousin and friend of many. Irene was a Past District Governor 13th District, Daughters of Penelope, Past President of Danae Chapter 121, chairwoman of many fund raising committees on the District and National level; including but not limited to Cooley's Anemia Screening Program and AHEPA Bone Marrow Transplants. Irene attended 52 AHEPA Family National Conventions; One more than her husband, Stash. Visitation was Thursday, February 24, 2011, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, Chicago. Family and friends met Friday morning, February 25, 2011, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Chicago for funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial donations to the Irene M. Betzelos Scholarship Fund c/o 5765 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago IL 60659 would be appreciated. Arrangements by JOHN G. ADINAMIS FUNERAL DIRECTOR, LTD.
