Lavinda was born and raised in Bay and lived 5 years in Michigan before returning to Bay where she lived the rest of her life. She and her husband, D.A. Counce owned and operated Counce's Market in Bay for many years. Lavinda was a long-time member of the Bay Church of Christ where she was active in the Ladies Group and Tuesday Bible study.
Lavinda was a victim of homicide which included home invasion and abduction. She was located in a cornfield off of a highway nine days after her disappearance.
