Joe attended Holy Rosary School in St. Louis, finishing the seventh grade. Like many children of his generation, Joe left school to go to work. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Death Valley, California from 1939 to 1940, and enlisted in the Army in January, 1941.
During World War II, Uncle Joe served in the Army with the 532nd Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment in the Pacific Theater, attached to the Second Engineer Battalion. Joe operated landing craft, and he saw a lot of action in New Guinea and the Philippines. Joe earned a Bronze Star, an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal.
Joe was the son of Frank Borowski and Dora Antonina Kwiatkowski.
He was the brother of our grandfather John Anthony, and great-aunts Mary Agnes, and his twin sister, Frances Katherine (Kozik). A sister, Anna Clara, and a brother, Francis, Jr., predeceased him.
Joe worked in manufacturing. He was fun-loving and a bit of a ladies' man. Joe is missed by all who knew and loved him.
