Born: February 13, 1915 at Atoka, Oklahoma to Thomas Hirem and Mary Cordella (Waggoner) Briggs.

Passed away: Friday, May 12, 2000 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Atoka, Ok.

Education: Mr. Briggs attended schools at Atoka and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1932. He received his B.A. Degree from Oklahoma State University and his Masters Degree in Counselling from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

Married: Elizabeth Smith, March 27, 1937 at Wewoka, OK.

Occupation: Mr. Briggs was a longtime rancher and educator and taught at the Atoka High School.

Church Affiliation: Verne was a member and elder at the First Christian Church in Atoka, Ok.

He served on the Board of Directors of Atoka State Bank for many years. He was a founding member of the Atoka Rural Water District #4...He served as President of the Atoka Rotary Club and he worked some 20 years for the National Rural Rehabilitation Board in Oklahoma.
