Lucy Jane Allen was born at Newberg, Missouri, February 6, 1866. She was the oldest child of Robert and Catherine Allen.
At an early age she united with the Baptist church.
Lucy Jane Allen was married to Benjamin Franklin Roberts at the Missionary Baptist church at Chariton Grove, Missouri, February 17, 1884. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters, all of whom survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Roberts moved from Missouri to Kansas in the spring of 1912. Since that time they have made Hazelton their home.
"Grandma Roberts" as she was known to her neighbors and friends, leaves to mourn her loss, her children: Linzie S. Roberts of Emporia, Kansas; Florence Dudley, La Plata, Missouri; W. Edd Roberts, Hutchinson, Kansas; Walter Roberts, Hazelton, Kans.; Lillie M. Shumaker, LaCrosse, Missouri; Clarence A. Roberts, Winfield, Kansas; and B. A. Roberts, Kiowa, Kansas; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B. F. Roberts, August 17, 1935, two grand-children, one of whom lost his life in the service of his country, and two great-grandchildren.
