---Druetty[stet] Catherine Shumaker was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, April 3, 1846, died at her home 6 miles west of La Plata June 6, 1917, aged 71 years, 2 months and 3 days.
---She was the third of six girls born to Chas. and Mary Shumaker, all of whom are left to mourn her death but one sister, Mrs. Ellen Ayers, who died some two years ago. The remaining sisters are; Mrs. Thomas Phillips and Mrs. Henry Clem of the Illinois Bend, Mrs. J. H. Rutherford, Chillicothe, Mo., Mrs. S. C. Mahuron, Hynes, Cal.
---She was married to Robert L. Allen March 16, 1865. To this union eleven children were born, seven of whom are living as follows: Mrs. Ben Roberts, Hazelton, Kas.; Mrs. Elizabeth Shumaker, Kirksville, Mo.; Mrs. Willard Musick, La Crosse, Mo.; Mrs. Lon Shumaker, Novinger, Mo.; William Allen, La Crosse, Mo.; Ben T. Allen, Elmer, Mo.; and Henry Allen of Kendrick, Colo. She leaves her aged husband, nineteen grand-children, fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives to mourn their loss.
---Mrs. Allen united with the Baptist church in 1868 and was a faithful christian.
---The funeral was conducted at the home by Rev. A. R. Foster of the Baptist church of La Plata. Interment in Shoemaker cemetery Thursday, June 7.
