Air Force 1st Lt Schulte was assigned to the Headquarters, Pacific Air Forces Command, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. She was traveling in a convoy from Camp Eggers, Kabul to Bagram Airfield when she was killed by an improvised explosive device. From the age of 12, Roz dreamed of being a fighter pilot. She graduated from John Burroughs School in St. Louis, Missouri in 2002 where she served as captain of the lacrosse team during her senior year and then went to the Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado. She graduated with academic and military honors and received a bachelor's degree in political science in 2006. But somewhere along the way, Roz decided that she wanted to go into intelligence instead of flying so she completed her training at the intelligence school at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas in April 2007. She was assigned as an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations officer to the 613th Air and Space Operations Center at Hickham Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. In February, Roz arrived in Afghanistan as part of the Combined Security Transition Command to help teach the Afghan military officials how to gather and interpret intelligence. Roz was smart, compassionate and determined. She will be remembered most for her very genuine kindness, affection for others and for life. Roz always wanted to do something honorable in her life that had purpose and meaning and she did.
