Husband of Lydia Spencer Haney, father of Eliza Emma, Benjamin Franklin (Frank), Charles (Charley), Harry and Grace Blanch, son of William & Mary (Johnson) Barnhart.

William was a member of GAR Buell Post #1, he lived his entire life in Washington County around the Lowell area.

He enlisted as a Private on July 5, 1863 at the age of 18 in Company C, 4th Cavalry Regiment Ohio.

Transfered on July 25, 1863 to Company E, 4th Cavalry Regiment Ohio. Mustered out on March 12, 1864.

He re-enlisted as a Private on September 5, 1864 at the age of 19 in Company D, 174th Infantry Regiment Ohio. Mustered out on June 28, 1865 in Charlotte, NC.

4th Independent Ohio Volunteer Calvary - Battles in which he fought:
CHICKAMAUGA, TN, September 19-23, 1863.
MIDDLETON, TN, May 21, 1863.
CLEVELAND, TN, November 27, 1863.

(About December 16, 1863 near Cumberland Gap Tennessee in a skirmish with the enemy, he received an injury to his right hip caused by his horse falling and dragging him against a pile of rails. This resulted in a permanent war injury to his hip & resulted in heart disease.)
