Susan Telia Stevens, daughter of Joseph Freeman Stevens and Laura Cornelia Lovelace, was born and raised in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas.

She married John Arthur Eaves on October 20, 1907. They moved first to Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas and bought a farm. In 1929, they moved to Petersburg, Hale County, Texas, and established a grocery store which was later expanded to include a hardware and general merchandise store. In 1949, John Arthur retired due to poor health and the store was turned over to his sons. John and Susan then moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a few months, then to Lubbock, Texas. Susan got a job in the cafeteria at West Texas Hospital and continued working there until 1960.

Two of their seven children, Horace Eugene Eaves and J. P. Eaves, died in infancy. Their other five children were Floyd Arthur, Loyd Howard, Billie Sue, Pansy Rae and Joseph Neil Eaves. Pansy Rae, wife of Thomas Ray Burtis, is their only living child at this time and there are nine living grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Susan Telia Eaves survived several bouts with cancer, two broken hips, and lived to the amazing age of 103 years.
