Neil was born in Lorenzo, Crosby County, Texas to John Arthur Eaves and Susan Telia Stevens.

The family moved to Petersburg, Texas in 1929 where his father establihed a grocery store. Neil, along with all his siblings, helped in the store when he wasn't in school.

Neil was disabled in WW ll with a severe back injury. He returned home and never married, but spent the rest of his life helping his parents. Neil's father had many health problems by the late 1940's and Neil helped his mom care for his dad. Later, Neil helped his mom take care of herself. She lived to the amazing age of 103.

His nieces and nephews adored him because he was so much fun. He would spend hours entertaining them with funny stories and magic tricks. He had a tape recorder and would tape all of us kids telling stories, jokes and singing, then play back our performances, much to our delight.

Neil was a great friend to everyone and was always looking for ways to help others. His neighbors really appreciated all the help he gave them with fixing things and with yard work when he was able.

Neil was predeceased by his father, his sister, Billie Sue Eaves Hughes and his two brothers, Floyd and Howard. He was survived by his mother, his sister, Pansy Rae (Eaves) Burtis, eleven nieces and nephews and eighteen great-nieces and nephews.
