Alba Gandy, 73, went to be with the Lord June 26, 2009. She was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Naples, Italy, to the late Ugo and Carmella Matarese. For more than 20 years, Alba worked as a nursing assistant; she enjoyed taking care of others. In her spare time Alba enjoyed cooking, playing Tombola (Italian game), and being with her friends. Left to cherish her memory are two children, Johnny Gandy (Debra-Lynn) and Tina Gandy (Dawn Kramer), all of Virginia Beach; sister, Wanda Matarese and brother, Elio Matarese (Rosario), all of Italy; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Mrs. Gennarina Shellenberg. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, June 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA.
