Dorene talked about going to college and she loved riding her bike while playing with neighborhood children. She worked hard around the house, caring for her eight younger siblings and helping to keep the home neat. She is survived by her mother, Mary Alice Turner of Midway Park; her father, Jessie L. Oates of Mount Olive; three sisters, Lauren Oates, Sharetha Oates, and Latasha Oates all of Midway Park; and two brothers, Anthony Oates and Nicholas Oates both of Midway Park.
Dorene died in a fire at her residence at age 13. Also killed were three of her sisters, Amanda, QuaNesha, Diamond and a brother Jesse, and a niece, Amanda's daughter, Angela .
