OBITUARY

THE CHARITON DEMOCRAT
Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 9, 1888

DIED - At her home in Liberty township, on Thursday, February 2, 1888, Mrs. Margaret Halferty, in her 74th year.

Margaret Phipps was born in the year 1814. She was married to Matthew Halferty in 1832, in Westmoreland county, Pa.

Deceased, together with her husband and family were pioneers of this county, having settled in Liberty township, one mile west of where Oakley station is now located, in the year 1850, where she has resided until the day of her death.

Her disease was pneumonia, and after a painful illness she quietly fell asleep, leaving her aged husband and children, five sons and one daughter, to mourn their loss. Deceased was a member of the Christian church.

Her funeral took place on the 4th, and was largely attended by many of her friends and neighbors. A discourse was delivered upon the occasion at the residence by Elder Wm. S. Hughes, of the Regular Baptist Church, after which her remains were conveyed to the Chariton Cemetery and there interred.
