Lea was born in Niepolomice, Poland on January 31, 1916, the wife of David Abraham Poliat (orig. Polyatchek) (1917-2007) and daughter of Salomon (Saul) and Francesca (Franja) (Pindeafeld) Soldinger. She is survived by son, Frank Poliat, niece Suzanne Cassidy Visher and nephew Daniel Bletterman and her great-nephews Devin Bletterman and Joshua Cassidy.
Lea emigrated, at an early age, with her family to Antwerp Belgium and in the late 1930's, fled the Nazi regime together with her and her husband's family. She and David settled in New York, spending the early 1950's in Montevideo, Uruguay, resettling in Manhattan around 1955 and moving once again, in 1963 to Madrid, Spain where they lived perhaps their happiest years. They returned to live in the US in the late 1980's, in Oakland California and finally moving to Portland Oregon in 2000.
Lea spoke about 7 or 8 languages and was an accomplished artist. Her artwork will be available for view online in September at www.quickdrawartist.com. She was a gifted interior designer and clothing designer as well.
Lea had a delightful sense of humor that never left her. We will miss her affectionate, irrepressible nature. Lea had a fan club.
