Notes from Sr. Philip Touhey at the Ursuline Convent in Wilmington, DE.
Mother Bernardine was born on April 22, 1891. Her father was William E Glorius and her mother, Anna Byrne Glorius.
Sr. Bernardine was baptized at the church of St. John in Baltimore, MD by Rev. J. McDevitt.
Mother Bernardine received her early education at St. Michael's and Bell High Public School in Frostburg, MD.
Mother entered the Ursuline Convent in Wilmington, DE on June 25, 1910. She was sent to Middletown, NY to make her novitiate. She lived there from Dec. 28, 1910 to Jan 9, 1913, the day of her profession. On that day she returned to Wilmington where she lived until the day of her death, with the exception of two years. In 1928 she spent in Elkton, MD where she was in charge of the community and taught in the elementary school. In 1929, she spent at St. John's in Hockeein, DE where she taught at the elementary school.
In June of 1930, Mother Bernardine returned to Wilmington where she taught elementary school until 1957 when she retired from teaching. For the next two years, she worked in the library and was in charge of the buying and selling of school supplies.
On January 9, 1973, Mother Bernardine celebrated her Diamond Jubilee of profession (60 years) with Mother Agnes Hamill, a sister who entered the convent with her. Mass was offered by Rev. Francis Dougherty, O.S.F.S., a close friend of the community.
Mother Bernardine died March 6, 1978, dearly loved by all who knew her.

Personal communication: I have made contact with Ellen (a student of Sr. Bernardine's) from Wilmington who knew Sr. Mary as a very quiet lady that never spoke much. She always asked for clear finger-nail polish and she also roller-skated in the basement of the Convent (Ursuline) in the evening.
