Netta Raef May
Birth: Sep. 23, 1893
Death: Feb. 9, 1920
Jasper County
Illinois, USA

Netta Mary (or Mary Annette) Raef May was the daughter of Louis T Raef and Josephine Paulus Long Raef. She married Ira I May on April 24, 1914. They had four children: Melvin, Rhea, Mildred and George. She died of influenza at the age of 26, 8 days after their son George James May was born. The boys were raised by their father Ira and the two girls were raised by Netta's half-sister Josephine Long Resch.

Her son Melvin died in 1922 at the age of 7. George died at the age of 19 in 1939 of a car accident. Melvin and George lay on either side of her in the family cemetery. Rhea died at the age of 28 in 1942. Mildred, her remaining child, lived a very long and happy life and died at the age of 82.

Mrs. Ira May, a young married woman of near Boos Station, died last night from influenzal-pneumonia, following child-birth a couple of weeks ago. She was a daughter of the late Louis Raef and his first wife, and is survived by her husband, four children and other relatives. ~From Newton (IL)Press: 2/10/1920
